Goals and Objectives

Before setting up your goals and objectives for a full and meaningful life, you should know what the difference is between a goal and an objective. Many individuals mistakenly believe that they are the same thing, but they’re not. A goal is your ultimate target or aspiration, whereas objectives are the steps you need to take in order to achieve that goal.

A simple example of this would be if you decided to write and publish your autobiography – the publishing of the autobiography is the ultimate goal.

The steps needed to get there may firstly be to purchase a laptop computer, then to learn how to use a word processor, to write a précis of your life and so on – these are all objectives.

Once you have made that important decision to escape from the rut you are in and work towards a Life of Choice, it is time to start writing down your goals and the steps needed to attain them.

Some people have great difficulty in doing this, and many famous and now wealthy individuals who have made a success of their lives have only done so with the help of a mentor or life coach. Mentorship can be extremely important, and for some individuals vital, in the road to financial freedom.

A mentor is a person who is more experienced and knowledgeable and who will act as a guide and advisor in the setting up of your goals and objectives.

Time is without doubt the greatest asset that anyone is given, and it’s free. If you can learn to make the best use of time it will help to bring about goals and objectives all the sooner.

One good way of doing this is to write down all of the things you need to do during a specific day. After writing them down, preferably on the preceding night, you should prioritize them by marking each task with an A,B or C. The tasks marked with an ‘A’ should be the most important and have to be carried out on that day.

The tasks that have been marked with a ‘B’ can be tasks that need to be done before a certain date, and could well be promoted to ‘A’ some time before that date. Finally those marked ‘C’ are the least important. This is an excellent way of using time management to achieve your short term objectives.

Time management is an essential tool or skill that goes hand in hand with achieving your goals and more specifically with your shorter term objectives. Once you are used to using it you will find that you are more focused and relaxed and have much more control over your life.
